Travel Essentials: Customs Entry (Personal)

Prohibited 

  • Counterfeit goods
  • Explosives
  • Endangered species and derivative products, including ivory, all animal skins  
  • Firearms that have no legitimate sporting or recreational use are not permitted entry
  • Narcotics and dangerous drugs (including cannabis products and derivatives)
  • Personal consignments of meat, meat products, milk and milk products, originated in non-E.U. countries with the exception of:
    a.)  powdered infant milk, infant food and special foods required for medical reasons provided that:
    the product does not require refrigeration before consumption; it is a packaged brand product;
    the packaging is unbroken.
    b.)  personal consignments from the Faeroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland with a combined total weight that does not exceed 5 kg.
    c.)  personal consignments from Andorra, Norway and San Marino.
    d.)  upon arrival; when goods are declared by an authorized E.U. border inspection post for veterinary control. Goods must be accompanied by the necessary documentation from the official veterinary services of the country of origin, stating that the goods conform to the requirements for entry into the E.U.
    Note: up to 1 kg of other food from animal origin, if authorized, can be imported, without submitting it for veterinary control.

  • Agricultural products
  • Currency:
    No restrictions if arriving from or traveling to another E.U. country. If arriving directly from a country outside the E.U.: amounts exceeding EUR 10,000 or more or the equivalent in another currency (incl. banker's draft and checks) must be declared.
  • Medicines:
    Personal medicines carried in your luggage and not more than would be required for personal use during your stay do not require a permit, but passengers should carry the medicine in original prescription bottle and have physician's prescription. Medicines sent by mail or by express shipment, require an Import Permit.
  • Pets:
    Cats or dogs must be identified by a microchip or clearly readable tattoo with proof of rabies vaccination and a veterinarian health certificate dated less than 10 days prior to arrival. They must at least 3 months old or traveling with their mother.
